Abstract:

The use of contextualization approach and localized learning materials fosters increased student engagement and real-world application. These help learners gain a deeper understanding of subject matter by relating material to meaningful situations that they encounter in real life. This descriptive correlational survey research aimed to determine the challenges in the contextualization approach and use of localized learning materials among teachers of a public school. Data were gathered using the survey checklists on the challenges in the contextualization approach and use of localized learning materials. Statistical tools used were frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation for descriptive analysis and Mann-Whitney U-test, Kruskal-Wallis U-test, and spearman's rho correlation. The significance level for all inferential data was set at alpha 0.05 at two-tailed test.

The study found out that in terms of content and assessment, the respondents have "somewhat prevalent" challenges in the contextualization approach as a whole and as to variables, as to learning materials, they have "prevalent" challenges as an entire group and according to variables, except for specialization and higher educational attainment, where social studies major doctorate degree holders, have "somewhat prevalent" challenges.
The respondents have "prevalent" challenges relative to the use of localized learning materials as to cultural, political, and economic issues as a whole and as to variables considered.
Significant differences existed in the challenges of the respondents in the use of localized learning materials in terms of cultural issues as position and specialization, but no significant differences as to variables in terms of economic issues, no significant differences existed in all variables considered.
A positive significant relationship was found between the challenges encountered by public secondary schools.
The study concluded that the challenges of public secondary school teachers in contextualization approach and use of localized learning materials in Mga Kontemporaryong Isyu are directly interrelated.
It was recommended that Araling Panlipunan teachers must continue harnessing their capability in the use of contextualization approach and localized learning materials.
