Abstract
This quantitative-descriptive research study investigated the level of quality of the Physical Science research output of students, the challenges encountered, and the best practices implemented in the selected SPSTE schools in the Schools Division of Antique during the School Year 2024-2025 as a basis for the skills training program.
To establish the level of quality of research outputs, data were collected using the independent assessment of the three inter-raters who were experts in the field of research using standardized criteria. A researcher-made checklist tool approved by the panel was used to identify the challenges and best practices. Statistical analysis includes mean percentage, frequency, and percentage.
Results revealed that the overall quality of Physical Science research outputs of students was rated as ""Good"" with strengths identified in the areas of writing an abstract, introduction, and presentation of results, while sections that need further improvement are the methods, conclusions, and recommendation sections.
In terms of the challenges, results showed that lack of exposure to real-world scientific practices, limited learning resources and laboratory facilities, lack of training and funding, struggle in conveying ideas, and inadequate understanding of complex concepts are the major areas of concern. For best practices, the integration of innovative pedagogies, the breakdown of complex topics, the provision of clear and relevant topics, and encouragement and guidance were fostered to support research
development.
The Project Research: Focused Training on Methods, Conclusions, and Recommendations aims to equip both teachers and students with essential skills to improve their competence in these three key areas, and enhance the quality of research instructions, and outputs in physical science.
Keywords: special program in science, technology, and engineering, physical science, research output, quality, challenges, best practices, skills training program |
