Summary, etc. Abstract

Learning activity sheets are valuable tools in education, providing structured, engaging, and student-centered tasks that support active learning. They help students connect theoretical physics concepts to real-life applications, improve understanding, and allow teachers to monitor learning progress.

This study aimed to assess the competency levels of Grade 7 students in physics, develop enhanced activity sheets to address learning gaps, and evaluate the effectiveness of these materials. A total of 40 students from a public secondary school in Antique were selected through purposive sampling. Using a quantitative-descriptive research design, the study examined student performance across key physics topics such as forces, motion, and velocity.

The results indicated that Grade 7 students generally exhibited a competent level in Physics subject, with female students and those with higher mathematics performance demonstrating greater proficiency. This suggests a strong link was found between mathematics performance and physics competency.

However, significant challenges were identified in Learning Competencies 3 (drawing free-body diagrams) and 7 (describing uniform velocity using distance-time graphs), where many students were at the Developing or Approaching Competence levels.

The enhanced activity sheets developed for this study received highly positive feedback from both students and teachers, indicating their effectiveness in improving comprehension. These results highlighted the importance of well-structured and engaging learning resources in improving students' comprehension of complex physics concepts.

Based on the results, the study concluded that Grade 7 students showed competent Physics skills influenced by gender and math performance, with learning gaps effectively addressed by enhanced activity sheets. It also recommends the adoption, support, and integration of enhanced activity sheets with active involvement of all stakeholders to improve science competency and address learning gaps through contextualized, hands-on instruction and further validation.

Keywords: Grade 7, physics education, learning competency, enhanced activity sheets, gender differences, mathematics performance, interactive learning, ADDIE model
