| Summary, etc. | Abstract
This study explored the lived experiences of live-in migrant domestic workers during their first contract of employment with their first employers in Asian countries. Using a phenomenological research design, qualitative data were collected from six participants through one-on-one online interviews to explore their lived experiences and the meanings they ascribed to their experiences abroad. The participants, who came from different municipalities across Antique, Philippines, were recruited online. Thematic analysis identified five major themes: (1) motivations and aspirations for working abroad; (2) emotional distress and psychological vulnerability; (3) confronting the realities of migration; (4) coping mechanisms; and (5) developing inner strength. Findings indicated that participants faced homesickness, interpersonal conflicts, and challenging working conditions but relied on resilience, faith, social support, and personal determination to navigate these difficulties. Their experiences contributed to personal growth, enhanced adaptability, and a sense of preparedness for future challenges.

Keywords: lived experiences, live-in migrant domestic worker, first contract of employment, problem-focused coping, emotion-focused coping |
