Disaster risk reduction strategies grounded in local and indigenous knowledge offer culturally relevant approaches to preparedness and mitigation. This qualitative study employed design ethnography to explore the LIK related to geological, hydrometeorological, and biological hazards, with the goal of categorizing them based on scientific relevance and potential use in contextualized school learning materials. Conducted in Patnongon. Antique, Philippines, in 2025, the study involved 12 purposefully selected knowledge bearers-elders with over 30 years of residency and firsthand disaster experience. Data were gathered through semi- structured interviews, observation, field notes, and photo documentation. Thematic analysis identified key themes per disaster type. For geological disasters: environmental observation, material culture, customary regulations, faith-based beliefs and rituals, and disaster response behaviors. Hydrometeorological disasters revealed themes of celestial and environmental observation, animal and plant indicators, material culture, and ritual practices. Biological disasters were characterized by environmental observation, material culture, environmental taboos, and faith-based rituals. LIK were classified into four categories. For geological disasters, Category 1 includes practices such as planting bamboo to prevent landslides and observing soil cracks. Category 2 consists of spiritual rituals like ""Paraw-paraw"" chants; Category 4 includes symbolic actions like scattering salt around homes. No LIK fell under Category 3 For hydrometeorological disasters, Category 1 covers practical observations and structural adaptations; Category 2 includes rituals and charms; Category 3 involves partially verifiable animal signs; Category 4 contains celestial interpretations. For biological disasters, Category 1 includes rodent behavior and herbal use; Category 2 involves sacred site taboos and healing rituals; Category 3 includes bamboo shoot absence as a famine sign. No LIK was recorded under Category 4. The findings informed the development of a contextualized supplemental learning booklet about local and indigenous knowledge.
