Abstract
Assessing the students' attitude and satisfaction and teachers' competence contributes to enhancing the quality of TVL education, This descriptive-correlational study focused on assessing the attitude and satisfaction of students and teachers' competence towards TVL subject in a National high school in San Jose, Antique for the school year 2024- 2025.
The instruments used in this study were the Students' Attitude Towards TVL Subject adopted from the work of Aguilina (2019), Students' Satisfaction Towards TVL Subject adopted from the work of Pangar 2022), and Teachers' Competence Towards TVL Subject adopted from the work of Villegas (2022).
Statistical tools employed were frequency, percentage, mean. standard deviation, t-test for Independent Samples, One-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), Least Significant Difference (LSD), and Pearson's r. The significance level for all inferential data were set at alpha 0.05 at two-tailed test and were subjected to normality tests using the Statistical Packages for Social Sciences (SPSS) software, version 26.0.
The salient findings of the study are as follows:
Students' attitude towards TVL subject as an entire group and when classified according to age, sex, strand and family income is favorable. Students' level of satisfaction towards TVL subject as an entire group and when classified according to age, sex, strand and family income is high. Teachers' level of competence towards TVL as assessed by the respondents as an entire group and when classified according to age, sex, strand and family income is high.
No significant difference was found in students' attitude towards TVL subject to age, sex, strand and family income. Significant difference was found in students' satisfaction as to age, but non-significant as to sex, strand and family income. Significant difference was found in teachers' competence towards TVL subject as to age and in one indicator only - personal and professional skills - as to sex. However, no significant difference exists in this construct as to strand and family income. A positive significant relationship was established between and among all indicators of students' attitude and satisfaction and teachers competence towards TVL subject.
The study concluded that generally, students have positive view of TVL as a learning area. They are satisfied with their learning experiences and learning outcomes in the various TVL areas. It is recommended that DepEd key officials and education policy makers may invest further in the enhancement of the TVL Education Curriculum through a comprehensive review of the offerings of secondary schools, especially those that implement the Special Program in Technical-Vocational Education (SPTVE). Besides conducting regular assessments of their TVL Programs and continuously upgrading college/university facilities and faculty competence, higher education institutions may invest further in their awareness advocacies in the grass root level so as to encourage and motivate senior high school graduates to take up technical-vocational undergraduate courses instead of trying to squeeze-in in the densely populated "white collar" degrees.
