Abstract
This study aimed to determine the influence of perceived inflation on the operational success of market vendors selling basic commodities. Specifically, it examined the level of perceived inflation experienced by market vendors, assessed their level of operational success, distinguished significant differences when grouped according to demographic profiles, examined the relationship between inflation and operational success of market vendors. The study utilized a quantitative predictive-correlational research design. A total of 130 registered market vendors were selected as respondents of the study through purposive sampling. The data were obtained using a researcher-developed questionnaire validated by three experts with a validity result of 4.43 and tested for reliability with a Cronbach's Alpha result of 0.819. Statistical tools such as frequency, percentage, median, Mann Whitney U-Test, Kruskal Wallis H-Test and Spearman Rho were used in analyzing the data. Findings revealed that market vendors were predominantly 45-59 years old, female, high school level, have a monthly income of 10,000 and below, have been operating their business for 11 years and above and mostly sell condiments and agricultural produce. Perceived level of inflation and level of operational success was rated high. In perceived level of inflation, a significant difference was observed when classified as to highest educational attainment and monthly income. However, significant difference in the level of operational success was observed as to highest educational attainment. Moreover, perceived level of inflation influenced significant market vendors' operational success. The study concluded that it is important to understand perceptions of inflation in order to develop interventions and support programs that can help enhance the sustainability and resilience of market vendors selling basic commodities. Market vendors are encouraged to utilize effective pricing strategies, management of inventories and budgeting to minimize the influence of perceived inflation. Likewise, both concern agencies and the local government may offer financial literacy and programs that may help vendors improve, sustain and support their business success amid increase in prices.
