This study aimed at ascertaining the attitude of CAT students towards military training in the Northern Antique Vocational School during the School Year 1998-1999 and its relation to gender, academic rating, religious affiliations, and socio-economic status.

The researcher sought answers to the following questions:

1. What is the attitude of CAT students towards military training when taken as a whole and when grouped according to gender, academic rating, religious affiliation, and socio-economic status?

2. Is the attitude of CAT students towards military training influenced by gender, academic rating, religious affiliation and socio-economic status?

The subjects of the study were the 190 CAT fourth year students randomly selected from a population of 361 enrolee's of the Northern Antique Vocational School during the school year 1998-1999.

The academic rating of the students was taken from their average grades during the first to the third grading periods in their subjects like English, Filipino, Mathematics, Science and Technology, and Social Studies.

A questionnaire-checklist was used to gather information about the students’ personal data such as gender, academic rating, religious affiliation and socio-economic status, while the CAT Attitude Inventory was used to determine the attitude of the CAT students towards military training.

Statistical tools used to analyse the data were the frequency count, percentage, and chi-square test. The results of the analysis were interpreted at « = .05 level of significance in a two-tailed test.

Findings:
The study Svnateld the following results:

1. As a whole, the CAT students at the Northern Antique Vocational School had a Favourable attitude towards military training, as well when the students were grouped as to gender, academic rating, religious affiliation, and socio-economic status.

2. Significantly, the attitudes of the students towards military training were influenced by gender, academic ratings and religious affiliation, except by their socio-economic status.

Conclusions

From the findings of the study, the following were the conclusions:

1. The CAT students at the Northern Antique Vocational School had developed great interest and attitude towards military training. It can be said with confidence that the students had learned the value of the training in their lives.

2. Gender, academic rating, and religious affiliations could influence the attitude of the CAT students towards military training.

Recommendation

Based on the findings and conclusions, the following recommendations are advanced.

1. Since the result of the study revealed that students possessed a favourable attitude towards military training, it is recommended that the school administration should give a full support to the implementation of the CAT program. The administration should provide better facilities to CAT instructions and adequate financial support to enhance the interests of the students as well as the commandant and staff towards the subject.

2. Since academic rating can influence the attitude of the students towards military training, therefore, it is recommended that the commandant and staff should be extra-careful in assessing cadets’ performances by giving fair grades. Favouritism must be avoided so as not to discourage the students from aspiring excellence in CAT-1.

3. Since socio-economic status did not influence the attitude of the students towards the subject, it is recommended that similar studies should be conducted using other variables like the integration of PEHM to CAT-1, the number of periods allotted to CAT-1, and the attitude of students towards the teacher maybe considered.
