520			_aAbstract History plays a vital role in the Social Studies curriculum in basic education. This descriptive-comparative and correlational study explored the historical awareness and attitudes of students toward Philippine history. Conducted from February to May 2024, the study involved 129 Bachelor of Secondary Education Social Studies majors in a State University, encompassing all year levels (first to fourth year). The participants were classified by Senior High School (SHS) track, sex, and year level. Data were gathered using two validated and reliability tested instruments to measure historical awareness and attitudes, with statistical analyses performed using SPSS software. Descriptive statistics (mean, frequency, percentage, and standard deviation) and inferential tests (Mann-Whitney U, Kruskal-Wallis H, and Spearman rho) were employed. The findings revealed that students demonstrated strong historical awareness across key dimensions: chronological understanding, historical significance, contextual analysis, source evaluation, and historical reflection. Both HUMSS and Non-HUMSS students exhibited high levels of awareness in chronological understanding and contextual analysis. Similarly, male and female students showed consistently high awareness in these areas. When categorized by year level, all students displayed high awareness, with fourth-year students achieving the highest scores. Attitudes toward Philippine history were overwhelmingly positive across all groups, with no significant differences in historical awareness based on SHS track or sex. However, year level significantly influenced attitudes, with senior students showing the most favorable perspectives. The study concluded that SHS track and sex do not substantially affect students' awareness and attitudes toward Philippine history. It recommended fostering active engagement in lessons to further enhance students' understanding and appreciation of the subject.
